Ancient and timeless, music truly is a powerful catalyst for expression, for through sound is a straight pathway to the soul, and all of the passions held within. For lifelong musician David Harvey, guitarist, singer, and songwriter, it is through music which he finds a natural release for that passion. Born in the beautiful Adirondacks of northern Connecticut, Harvey was raised by a father who understood the important role which music has played in the history of humankind, encouraging his musical creativity to thrive and grow. The beauty and emotion of music firmly took him, and he continually seeks to bring into existence the songs which only he can create from his unique perspective, as well as continuing on the tradition of classic songs which stand alone in their perfection, passed down through generations of our kind.To Dave Harvey, being a musician is an honor, for throughout history, people have turned to music for healing and revival. Musicians have the magical ability to move people without actually touching them, bringing them together, teaching them, pinpointing the chords which make their hearts ache, making their bodies dance unabashedly to the unending beat. It takes a certain bravery to be a musician, for a musician has to be prepared to bear their heart and soul, with no promise of reward. A recording artist for 17 years, David Harvey approaches his music with this courage, and he understands that the true reward is the music itself. “I love playing with other musicians, just letting the music happen as it happens. The moment when each person's unique sound comes together into spontaneous, harmonic song- the magic of that moment is the highest high I've ever experienced,”says Harvey, with a smile and a twinkle in his eye. The connection between himself and other musicians is important to Harvey, and he loves opening himself up to other people's styles and techniques, using what he can learn from them to reach farther into the unknown realms, and find hidden parts of himself. Among his favorite musicians to jam with are Ed Barattini with his masterful drumwork, Freedom of the soulful Freedom Tribe, Greg Turiello, skilled with a myriad of instruments, and the late Gary Nielson, whose ancient rhythms on flute and drum paired well with Harvey's pure-hearted style and respect for music's primitive roots. As seriously as Harvey takes his music, and all the other work he does in his life, it's equally as important to him to cut loose and enjoy each moment of life as it goes by. One of his favorite gigs has been playing with the Heavenly J's, a performance group of finest caliber, where each member of the group performs the songs of a different great legend, including Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, and Jerry Garcia. Harvey was approached for the role of John Lennon, and gladly accepted the part, although for a moment he was daunted at filling such exalted shoes as that of Lennon. The excitement at such a prospect quickly took over his initial humbleness, and now Harvey busts out great Lennon tunes with fervor, songs such as “Beautiful Boy,” “Revolution,” Watching The Wheels,” and “Everyone Says I'm Crazy”- the last of which Harvey feels Lennon wrote for him.In August of 2009, David Harvey is proud to debut his own new album, titled Ten Years Running, which features Harvey's own original music, as well as his collaborations with other musicians. The name Ten Years Running illustrates the turbulent pace at which Harvey travels through his life day to day, especially since the birth of his first child, a son, nine years ago. A creation of pure soul, the album embodies his love for music, for his family, for his fellow musicians, and for the people of the world, each of whom has a unique soundtrack of their own.
